Why Attend Childbirth Education Clsses?
I attended prenatal classes for the first time in 2005, (my husband and I were expecting our first child!) and guess what??!! Two babies, work as a doula, training as a childbirth educator and countless other life experiences and I STILL remember those classes. The day you give birth is a day you will remember for the rest of your life, and can instill either feelings of confidence or defeat as you embark on this journey as a new parent. A colleague of mine once asked "How much time and effort and money do many of us invest in our wedding day? A lot! Well, isn't giving birth just as important as your wedding day?"
The reasons you attend Childbirth Education are as unique as you are, but some of the reasons I suggest people attend are
-
To learn pain coping practices that can be invaluable in a medication free birth, a medicated birth, an assisted birth, during a cesarean birth, in the postpartum period, during breastfeeding and in many other places in your life.
-
To provide you with reliable, evidence based information about the issues you may be facing during pregnancy, labour, birth, post partum, breast-feeding and in the early days as a new parent.
-
Your facilitators can answer your questions and address your concerns in a way no book or website can.
-
To connect you with other growing families and resources in your community.
-
To help you face and process any fears you might be having about this sometimes scary time in your life.
-
To help you think about the issues you didn’t know that you didn’t know about.
-
To encourage you to think about what is important to you during labour and birth and how to cope when and if things don’t go as planned, as they sometimes don’t.
-
To empower you to make the decisions that are right for you and your family.
-
To instill confidence in your ability to birth and be the best parent you can be to the newest addition to your family!

"Science is also increasingly discovering what we realize as mothers- that our way of birth affects us life-long, mother and child, and that an ecstatic birth, a birth that takes us beyond our Self, is the gift of a lifetime."
